Hamilton city is bisected by the mighty Waikato River. From here you’ll journey through Waikato’s towns, each offering a unique experience. Travel through the pretty town of Cambridge, sight the distinctive corrugated iron art including a giant dog and sheep in Tirau and visit the excellent museum in Te Awamutu, which has Maori treasures and stories from the land wars. Otorohanga is a great place for a crash course in basic kiwi culture and Te Kuiti is a good base for exploring the Waitomo Caves; a site with underground splendours and glow worms. As for Lake Taupo – the options are almost limitless.
