Guided Day Trips A fun and interesting one day adventure on the Queen Charlotte Sound. Because you only paddle one way into the Sound, this trip provides a fantastic opportunity to see the best of the Sound in a short space of time and in a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere.
Assemble at 8.45 am for the One Day Guided Kayaking which starts at 9am with instructions before paddling out of Picton Harbour and down into the Grove Arm in beautiful Queen Charlotte Sound. Once on the water, the group of no more than 8 paddlers heads out towards the southern end of the Queen Charlotte Sound.
After an hour or so of relaxed paddling, its time for morning tea, featuring fresh home baked muffins on a secluded sandy beach. Another pleasant paddle across the Sound takes in some of the prettiest native bush in the Sounds. Then its time for lunch. There's plenty of time for swimming, or taking a walk in the bush. The guide will happily talk about fascinating history, wildlife and Maori legends of the area.
After lunch paddle along the shoreline, maybe past the nesting shags, as the group heads across the Sound again to where the MSAC van awaits for your return trip to Picton.
If you are considering renting kayaks and paddling independently, but lack the necessary experience or knowledge of the Sounds, use this trip as a training day. The guide will spend extra time with you teaching the necessary paddling and safety skills, local knowledge and other information. Instead of returning to Picton with the rest of the group you can continue on independently to one of the various campsites in the Queen Charlotte Sound. We supply a delicious homemade morning tea and lunch. Departure on the day trip is always dependent on weather conditions.
Paddlers need to take: Sunhat, sunscreen, sunglasses, T shirt & shorts for warmer weather. Polypropylene or woollen clothing for colder weather. Wind jackets, shoes which can get wet. Dry bags are available for cameras.
