A taste of The Lord of the Rings fantastic scenery

By

In a small village in the Shire a young Hobbit named Frodo was entrusted with an ancient Ring. He had to embark on an Epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it. Come and see why Peter Jackson knew New Zealand was the perfect location to film the Middle Earth trilogy. Land around Matamata was transformed into the village of Hobbiton, where Frodo’s journey began. The Mount Ruapehu region became the Emyn Muil, where Frodo and Sam captured Gollum. Nearby are the slopes of Mt Doom (home to Sauron). Capital city Wellington region is where the hobbits escaped the Black Riders and it was home to the cast and crew for over three years. In the South Island, visit Nelson City and Jens Hansen Gold & Silversmith Jewellers (creator of the original LOTR ring). The flat Canterbury Plains stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the peaks of the Southern Alps were the location for the Rohirrim city or Edoras and the Court of Meduseld (home of King Theoden). The varied landscapes in the Queenstown Region meant most of the country side scenes were filmed here.
